Your First Peek Inside The Country Practice 'Hospital'
Since it became known that the historic Oakville residence known as 'Clare House' which featured in Aussie soapie as Wandin Valley Hospital was up for sale, people have gone into nostalgia overdrive remembering the beloved series.
Built in 1828, the property was used for exterior shots for the hospital, while all of the interior filming took place at Channel 7's studios.
Vendor Sharon Palmer admits she had never actually watched the show when she purchased the home nine years ago with her husband Hilton.
Palmer moved to Australia from England in 1991 and missed seeing the drama series when it was at its ratings peak.
“It wasn’t until I came here I thought `gee, it looks familiar’ but it had been on the market 18 months and I’d seen in real estate magazine,’’ Ms Palmer said.
“It had no bearing on us buying the property - I just loved its quirkiness, its history and the location is beautiful and in a quiet cul-de-sac.’’
The couple purchased the A Country Practice box set to help bring them up to speed on their homes impact on TV history.
Palmer also revealed that even 25 years after the show finished, fans still flock to the property to take a photo.
“They usually stop and you’ll see them get out of the car and make sure no one is looking and run out and take a photo out the front,’’ Mrs Palmer said.
“I always ask them if they’d like to come in and have a look around"
"We have two avid fans turn up one Saturday afternoon and we invited them in to have a look around - we ended up getting pizza and drinks and they left at 11 at night.’’
A few years ago they were even visited by Shane Porteous who played Dr Terrance Elliott for 12 years on the show.
While he had filmed countless scenes around the house, he’d actually never been inside before.
Agent Hamish Rogers from Hamish Rogers Realty said he is expecting the property to sell upwards of $2m when it goes to auction on September 30.
