Stage Musical Of Bette Midler's Film Beaches To Open Soon
It's been announced that Bette Midler's tear-jerker Beaches is being adapted into a new stage musical.
The live version of the 1988 hit film is expected to open in the West End in London next year before then coming to Broadway.
Speaking to ET, Iris Rainer Dart, who wrote the novel of which the movie is based said, “That would be the hope”
“I feel very lucky, first of all, to be my age and doing this. The theater has much less ageism than the movie and television business.”
The story of two friends from different backgrounds who develop a long-lasting relationship was a huge hit and also spawned the massive hit song 'Wind Beneath My Wings'
The stage production is currently being workshopped with new songs and script being written.
However, Beaches is just one of several late ‘80s/early ‘90s classic film to be reimagined for the stage, following the successful run of Groundhog Day, and the upcoming Pretty Woman: The Musical.
It's been announced that there will be a broadway version of the Chevy Chase comedy Vacation, while Cyndi Lauper is writing music for Working Girl, based on the 1988 romantic comedy starring Melanie Griffith and Harrison Ford.
