Some Unlikely A-List Names Put Forward For Razzie Awards
It's Oscar season and Russell Crowe and Mel Gibson have received nominations ... but not the nods they were probably hoping for.
Crowe and Gibson were called out on Monday for giving two of the worst acting performances of the past year.
The 38th annual Golden Raspberry Awards pits Crowe, for his performance in The Mummy, against Gibson, for Daddy's Home 2, in the worst supporting actor category.
The Razzie nominations were announced a day ahead of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' release of Oscar nominations.
Razzie voters had plenty of stinkers and flops to choose from in compiling this year's nominees, with Baywatch, The Emoji Movie, Fifty Shades Darker, Transformers: The Last Knight and Crowe's The Mummy remake named in the worst picture category.
The Mummy's other fallen star, Tom Cruise, received a Razzie nomination for worst actor, but faces weak competition against Johnny Depp (Pirates of The Caribbean XIII: Dead Men Tell No Tales), Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades Darker), Zac Efron (Baywatch) and Mark Wahlberg (Daddy's Home 2 & Transformers XVII: The Last Knight).
The Razzie worst actress race is between Katherine Heigl (Unforgettable), Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades Darker), Jennifer Lawrence (Mother!), Tyler Perry (BOO! 2: A Medea Halloween) and Emma Watson (The Circle).
Crowe and Gibson face tepid competition in the worst supporting actor category, with Javier Bardem (Mother! & Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), Josh Duhamel (Transformers XVII: Last Knight) and Anthony Hopkins (Collide & Transformers XVII: Last Knight) the other nominees.
Razzie winners will be announced on March 3, the day before the Oscars ceremony.
