What’s not known is whether Weaver will reprise her role of Dana Barrett.
The new movie has faced online criticism from some fans after it was announced it would star a team of all-female Ghostbusters made up of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.
McCarthy and Wiig teamed up with Feig for 2011 comedy Bridesmaids. Along with Saturday Night Live stars Jones and McKinnon the quartet will take on the iconic roles played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson in the 1984 original.
Weaver is the latest member of the original cast to join the new movie after it was announced that Hudson, Murray and Aykroyd would also make cameos.
The film is set for release next summer.
