How's this for a good news story!
You may have seen the story yesterday about South Aussie pensioner Ray Johnstone, from Lewiston, in Adelaide's north who, with the help of a computer savvy friend, advertised on Gumtree looking for someone to accompany him on a fishing trip.
The lonely widowers regular fishing buddy had passed away and Ray decided to try his luck and put out the classified.
"I am a land-based fisherman. I have all the gear for all types of fish that is required for land-based fishing.
What I want is a fishing mate in a similar position to myself who also wants someone to go fishing with. I am willing to share all costs, e.g. petrol, bait, and should you happen to own a boat [am] willing to pay all ramp fees, but happy if you are also a land-based fisherman."
To say the response was huge is an understatement!
The story gained heaps of attention, as did Ray's Gumtree ad, which has now been viewed over 13,000 times.
And the best part is, it appears Ray has found someone who lives locally who is keen to drop a line with him!
Speaking to Nine.com.au Ray said:
"I have found a fishing partner. Gumtree called me and said the ad went viral,"
We wish Ray and his new friend all the best and hope they catch a big one when they head out with the rod and reel!
