Nicole Kidman In Talks To Join 'Wonder Woman' Movie

Nicole Kidman is reportedly in talks to join Gal Gadot and Chris Pine in the long-planned Wonder Woman movie.

Gadot will make her debut as the iconic comic book character in next year's Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice before starring in a standalone Wonder Woman movie due in 2017. Chris Pine has been cast as her love interest, Steve Trevor, in a role which is said to have "plenty of action to keep him busy".

Now Oscar winner Kidman is being tapped to play a "high-ranking Amazonian warrior", TheWrap reports. Fans are already speculating that Kidman could be in line to portray Hyppolyta, Queen of the Amazons from the original Wonder Woman comics, and Diana Prince/Wonder Woman's biological mother.

The Wonder Woman movie has been in the works for close to two decades, with several stops and starts over the years, and Joss Whedon attached to direct at one point. Monster's Patty Jenkins is now set to direct after Breaking Bad director Michelle MacLaren dropped out earlier this year. The film is set for release on June 23, 2017.

Wonder Woman, a warrior princess of the Amazons, made her DC Comics debut in 1941 and was famously played by Lynda Carter, a former Miss World USA, in a popular US TV series that ran from 1975 to 1979. An unseen pilot for a TV reboot was shot in 2011 but NBC decided not to order a full series.
