The 67-year-old music legend, who has three grown kids, tells The Mirror that he's "willing to become a father again" with his 30-something girlfriend of four years, former model Lisa Parigi.
"I might have just let a secret slip there, but so be it," Lionel reveals. "Lisa and I are cool with the idea of children."
However, the twice-divorced Richie isn't so keen about get married again, telling The Mirror, "Marriage…is a very different issue, it's a bad idea for men."
Lionel further explains, "I've been there twice and it was very expensive for me. I've no idea to go there a third time -- women have killed it for me. Kids aren't the problem -- ex-wives are."
For her part, Parigi says she is content with the status of her relationship with Richie.
"Lionel has been there twice and it was definitely a tough for him," she tells The Mirror. "I don't need a ring to validate my relationship with him. What we already have is enough."
In December 2015, Richie was speaking with The Sun about the fact that Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood was preparing to become a dad again, when he said, "If you really want to kill me, give me some more kids! I'm fascinated about life, but I think I'm over the fact that I'd want to have any more kids."
Lionel has one adopted daughter, reality star Nicole Richie, from his first marriage, and also has a biological son and daughter, Miles and Sofia, with his second wife.
