Channel 7 Axing Shows And Coming Out To Play In Ratings War

Channel Seven is going through a programming revamp that has seen them shelve a new season of House Rules, and dump quiz show Million Dollar Minute.

After the ratings failing of Restaurant Revolution, the Seven program chief Angus Ross has promised to "unleash hell" on competitors Nine and Ten, with new shows in September.

Mr Ross has confirmed that Million Dollar Minute will be dumped from the 5.30pm timeslot, as it just can't compete with Nine's Hot Seat.

He also revealed that the new season of House Rules, which was already filmed and ready to air at the end of 2015, won't go to air this year...

Seven will launch a whole host of new programs over the next month, including Eric Thompson's 800 Words, Peter Allen: The Boy Next Door, and a revamped X Factor, with new judges James Blunt and Chris Isaak, joining Guy Sebastian and Dannii Minogue.

They've set the date for September 13, when they will launch their new programming...

The Chase Australia will replace Million Dollar Minute and Deal or No Deal reruns in the 5pm - 6pm slot.

“I always want shows to win their timeslot … and [Million Dollar minute] hasn’t done that unfortunately (so) we need to rectify that,” Mr Ross told news.com.au.

“We are about to unleash hell in the final quarter,” Mr Ross said.

“You always want to come home with a wet sail at the end of the year. We have obviously had a show (Restaurant Revolution) that has disappointed for us.”

They ultimately decided to shelve House Rules as it would go up against the new season of The Block in the 7.30pm slot.

“We’ve got a series there (completed) but I don’t think the genre matching that has occurred this year has helped anyone,” Mr Ross says.

“Do I think House Rules versus The Block is going to be a good outcome for us or for audiences? No. I don’t think it would be a win for anyone.”

But Seven won't have it easy with Channel Ten launching The Bachelorette and The Biggest Loser Families, and Nine rolling out Celebrity Apprentice and The Block.
