Bert Newton Is Not Happy About The Logies Leaving Melbourne

With the Victorian state government announcing that it has pulled out of hosting next years Logie Awards in Melbourne, a number of celeb's have slammed the decision and now Aussie TV legend Bert Newton has fired up about the controversial decision.

The 79 year old star is furious that his hometown will no longer host Australian TV's 'night of nights'

Bert has told the Herald Sun that: 'The Logies belong in Melbourne,'

'In my mind it’s like losing the AFL Grand Final or the Melbourne Cup. They too have always been in Melbourne.'

'My fear is if they go somewhere else, we may never get them back.'

Victorian Tourism and Events Minister John Eren said in a statement:

"We're proud to have been home to the Logies for more than 30 years, but it's time to pass on the baton,"

The awards night will likely be held in Queensland from 2018 onwards, News Corp Australia reports.

Mr Eren said the government decided not to put its hand up for next year's event after talking to key stakeholders and conducting a comprehensive event analysis.

The Logies have been held at the Palladium ballroom in Crown Casino since 1997.

Melbourne has hosted the annual award night every year since 1987.

Sydney has hosted the annual television award night a handful of times since it began in 1959.
