Blind, autistic singer shocks America's Got Talent

It’s the reality TV show moment that shook the world and has been labelled the best 8min and 13 seconds of the year!

The person responsible for that moment is Kodi Lee, a 22-year-old from California who is both blind and autistic.

The response from the world to Kodi has been phenomenal with more than 80 million views of his performance in less than 24 hours on Facebook alone.

He appeared on NBC’s America’s Got Talent on Wednesday (Australian time), with his mum Tina alongside him.

“We found out that he loved music really early on,' she said. 'He listened and his eyes just went huge. And he started singing, and that's when I was in tears, because I realised he is an entertainer.

“Through music and performing, he was able to withstand living in this world, because when you're autistic, it's really hard to do what everybody else does.

“It has actually saved his life, playing music.”

Tina helps him over to the piano on stage where he sits down and performs his version of Leon Russell’s ‘A Song For You’.

She whispers: “This is your time OK, there’s going to be like 20 cameras all on you, are you ready? Go, boom.”

Kodi was definitely ready, he soars into the most spine-tingling and emotional 40 seconds of music you’ll hear.

The four judges - Simon Cowell, Julianne Hough, Gabrielle Union, and Howie Mandel - were left in shock, while the audience wiped away tears.

“I can't stop crying,” Julianne said, while Howie told Kodi: “I will tell you that all four judges and everybody in this room were up on their feet. You were wonderful.”

Once Gabrielle pressed the ‘golden buzzer’, it was confirmed that Kodi would be going straight through to the live rounds of the show but there was little doubt the other judges would have agreed to send him through.

So look out for more of Kodi Lee, as NBC wrote, he is a “STAR”.
