Emma Watsons The Colony Takes Embarrassing $60 At Box Office

Emma Watson's new movie reportedly made just $60 (£47) at the U.K. box office in its opening weekend.

The Colony, a thriller set in Chile during the era of murderous dictator General Pinochet, is Emma's first dramatic lead role post Harry Potter - the movie franchise which propelled the British actress to superstardom.

Emma stars as a woman attempting to rescue her husband (Daniel Bruhl) from a cult, Colonia Dignidad. In real-life, the religious community was founded by Wehrmacht officer and Hitler Youth veteran Paul Schafer.

The Jeff Renfroe helmed movie was released in just three U.K. cinemas on Friday, as well as being made available to stream through video on demand.

The weighty film, which received lukewarm reviews, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2015 and opened under the name Colonia in 27 U.S. theatres in April. It took just $15,709 (£12,152) during its run, according to Forbes.com

This is not Emma's first box office disappointment of the year. In May, Regression, in which she co-starred alongside Ethan Hawke, made $55,039 (£42,576) at the domestic box office but fared better in the U.K. with takings of $329,167 (£254,635) in the U.K.

Emma will next be seen as Belle in Bill Condon's big-budget, live action re-working of Disney classic Beauty and the Beast, which is set for release in March 2017.
